We need to keep up the YFTC campaign in our local bookstores and libraries. This would be especially productive for us since we are so widely spread throughout Indiana.
At my local Walden Books (owned by Borders), I found not a single book by Hubbard. Woot!
At my local Books-A-Million, I couldn't find any Sceintology or Dianetics related book, but I did find this... (see picture). A shelf full of his fiction... On my next visit, Im taking about 20 YFTC cards with me...
Good! Also, I will soon be going on a vacation to Florida... which is, of course, a CoS hotspot. We always visit big bookstores there (myself, my mom, and my sister read a LOT), so Ill be sure to bring along a ton of em.
I'll hit up the large bookstores in Evansville. The CoS's books are often hidden away in the self-help or Christian section at our Barnes and Nobles. Maybe I'll take the time to move them to the sci-fi section.
Or use your own hand-written index cards (such as the ones in Kilroy's photos)
The point of this is: Think about it... If you bought a book and found a card inside that said "YouFoundTheCard.com" without offering any explanation about what it is, wouldn't you be curious as to what it is? Curious enough to check the site? First of all, the URL makes it sound like you won a contest or something. That's the point!
I just got back from raiding the Grape Road bookstores. I am pleased to announce that Barnes & Noble, the new one in University Park Mall in Mishawaka, only had two LRH books; the New Slant on Life book (which conveniently had a plastic cover so that it was impossible to place a YFTC in), and Battlefield Earth. Both books got a YFTC, with the New Slant on Life having one placed just outside the cover.
Just printed 140 YFTCs... Im considering writing the URL for this group on the back of some of the ones thatll be distributed locally... What do you think?
I took about 50 YFTCs with me. There were approx. 3 bookstores (although one was Christian, and one was owned by Guideposts, I think...) in the St. Augustine Factory Outlet Mall (BIG place), and I spent well over 5 hours searching all three of them. Yet somehow, I couldn't find a single LRH or Scilon book! Woot! Still, I distributed my YFTCs to random books and other locations (vending machine, shoe boxes, etc). The only bad part about YFTCs is that you never get to see the result...
And no, I did not get the opportunity to visit any Orgs or Clearwater. Oh well.
