Anon Indy, Zewuce, Cock Czar and I got on the road towards Monument Circle at approximately 11. The car was loaded with all the proper supplies; signs, flyers, the radio and music and extra masks. We found a parking spot, got masked and ready and headed towards the destination. While we were closing in on our destination (and stopping at a Jimmy John’s to take a leak), I noticed three people following right beside us. It turns out they were there to join us for the demonstration, so when we got to our spot, I shuffled through Indy’s bag and gave them masks and sunglasses. Soon after getting set up, two other gentlemen joined us for the rally.
We got the signs out, flyers in hand and the music going and set about our work. The first hour and a half was a bit slow as far as foot traffic goes. A local Indianapolis cop stopped by and asked what we were doing. I explained to him the purpose of our protest and he nodded his approval and reminded us not to block the sideways or stand out in the road and then went about his business.
Cock Czar and Zewuce took the corner opposite the main group to cover more ground and our protest continued. We soon joined them at their corner since it was in the shade and soon after we got set-up over there, two more gentlemen joined us, one of whom spent most of his time filming and taking pictures. We had the usual mix of passer-bys; many refused to acknowledge our presence, others took flyers quietly and walked on and more than a few spent time talking to us, asking about our cause. One group of pedestrians (a family) took a great interest in our cause and had pictures taken with the group and even took a batch of flyers for themselves. Another gentleman stopped his huge bus to ask about the cause and took our literature. As we were wrapping up, one of the coach ladies (who drive the horse-drawn coaches for Indianapolis tourists) pointed us out to her passengers and explained our cause to them.
We had very little hostility; the only incident that I witnessed was a black lady who angrily refused our literature and spat at us to take off our masks. We had a few incidents of suspicious activity; a gentleman kept walking around, changing his clothes three times in what appeared to be an attempt to disguise his identity. Another man kept taking pictures of us and packing up his equipment every time we noticed him. A vehicle with duct tape on the back windows also circled around several times.
One humorous incident was a gentleman who had his van parked and his doors wide open. Indy told me to keep a sharp eye out because the gentleman was seen talking to a police officer, Indy thought maybe the guy was talking about us and we were about to be busted. However it turned out that the man was selling Christian hats to feed the homeless in a local shelter. A few of us talked to him and he was a nice man, he supported what we were doing and asked us to turn it over to God.
The demonstration ended at around five o’clock, we posed for one last group picture and then went off on our separate ways. It was a successful day, we had more than double the amount of demonstrators than the last rally, we got a good amount of literature distributed, met a lot of supportive people and at times, danced to goofy music to keep ourselves in high spirits.
The pictures and video from the day should be posted soon.
